10 bottles of fruity baby food
Hola familia!!
It's been a great week here in Terrazas! I'm back to just one comp :`( Hermana Tlachi has been taken from us for her last week, so we won't get to kill her off after all. It's just me and Hermana Varela. But it's cool! Hermana Varela actually speaks English, her degree is in foreign languages and she wants to be an interpreter, so it's fun to speak Spanglish or English when we need to say something that no one else should know! "Hey hermana, will you eat my tomatoes?"
We started off the week going on exchanges with the sisters from La Salle, me and Hermana Varela were with Hermana Marìn! There's a member family called the Pa_ family that I've been helping their son with his English homework and during exchanges they gave us like 10 bottle cans of fruity baby food hahaha so all week we've been enjoying well balanced meals by Gerber. That was one of the many miracles!
Another was Ab_. Ab_ is one of the students in my English class that comes regularly. She was invited by a recent convert from the other stake and after talking to them for a little bit we found out that she wasn't a member and lives in our area, so we set up an appointment. It also turns out that her aunt is a member and brought her to church when she was little. She was going to be baptized as a girl, but her mom wouldn't give her permission. Now she`s 21 and has come back in contact with the church thanks to her friend bringing her to class :)
On Friday night we had our first lesson with her in the church building. We took her on a tour to see all of the rooms, and it was cool to see her remember things. We ended with one of the most special parts of the building, which is the baptismal font which led us to start talking about baptism. Ab_ had some doubts at first about it that I think many people have. She felt that she needed years of preparation before being able to be baptized, but we explained to her that while it's important that we prepare ourselves to make a covenant with God and we should make changes in our lives to follow him, baptism is only the gate, it's just the beginning of a lifetime of following Christ. After talking for a little bit she accepted the invitation to be baptized the 23 of this month :)
We also were able to have a miracle yesterday. We went to eat with the stake president and his family and also some of their extended family. He has two nieces named Em_ and Cy_ that aren't baptized because their parents are very inactive. They had been taught anteriorly (Spanglish for previously) by missionaries. We started talking with Em_ who is the youngest of the two and is 14 years old. She is super sweet and has a great desire to follow Christ and went with us to the Christmas Devotional. She has a great desire to be baptized on the 24th but isn't sure if her parents will give her permission, so prayers for her would be much appreciated!
Wow, sounds like a fun week in the States! Cami!!!!!!! Why didn't you invite me??????????? Also what are you studying? Mo, who is this T_ person??? Ez, we live by a basketball court, the Spanish word for court is cancha and the Spanish word for shell is concha, and I always tell the taxis to take us by the shells. JJ, but planning the activities is fun! haha Jarrad, I will repeat as many times as necessary, Rudy's got to go. Dad, will be praying hard for you! Just keep being the best dad ever! Mom, I promise to soon share my Spanish skills :)
I love what you guys mentioned about the Book of Mormon. We actually have a new rule in our mission that where ever we go we always need to have a Book of Mormon in hand. We call it "the sickle" (which is cool, but it makes me laugh; sometimes when we're leaving the house and my companions are like "do you have your nametag? do you have your sickle??"). The Book of Mormon truly contains the truth of everything that makes us different as a church. It's one of my favorite contacting methods "do you know why they call us Mormons?".
So to answer your question, I don't think my mission would exist without the Book of Mormon.
